The basic setting of the museum represents the city from its founding (mid-18th century) through the most significant historical dates and the period of the formation of civil society. Special attention is directed towards tradition and customs, as well as multiculturalism. The existence of settlements in the period before the founding of the city is evidenced by numerous archaeological findings, among which arethe oldest from the younger stone age.

The natural history heritage is presented through the interesting collection of teaching aids from the former Grammar School. Within the exhibition, there are also works of art by local artists from the second half of 20th century and the beginning of 21st.
